Money word

Roth IRA

A retirement account, fundable once a kid has earned income, where growth is tax-free.

A Roth IRA is funded with after-tax money and then grows — and is eventually withdrawn — completely tax-free. A custodial Roth IRA becomes available once a child has earned income from a job, and starting one that young gives the tax-free growth an extraordinarily long time to work.

Explain it to your kid

"A retirement account where your money can grow tax-free."
