Brokerage Account

The account that holds investments and lets you buy, hold, and sell them.

A brokerage account is the container investments live in. For a kid, the common versions are a custodial brokerage account (a UTMA) and a custodial Roth IRA. Most brokers now charge no commission on stocks and ETFs and allow fractional shares, so you can start with just a few dollars.

Explain it to your kid

"The account where your investments live."
