How to upgrade or downgrade your plan

You can change plans at any time from /dashboard/billing. MemoryBank has three plans: Free, Starter, and Family.

If you subscribed in the iPhone app, plan changes and cancellations are handled by Apple instead: open your iPhone's Settings → your name (Apple ID) → Subscriptions.

Upgrading

  1. Open /dashboard/billing.
  2. Click Change plan (or Upgrade).
  3. Pick the plan you want.
  4. You're sent to the secure payment portal. Confirm.
  5. The upgrade takes effect immediately. You'll be charged the prorated difference for the remainder of the current billing period.

After upgrading, any features the new plan unlocks (more kid profiles, more linked accounts, AI stock stories, etc.) are available right away.

Downgrading

  1. Open /dashboard/billing.
  2. Click Change plan.
  3. Pick the lower tier.
  4. The downgrade takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You keep the higher-tier features until that date.

After a downgrade kicks in, here's what changes:

  • Kid profiles you already have stay put and keep showing, even if you're above the lower plan's kid limit. You just can't add new kids until you're under the limit (or upgrade again).
  • Brokerage connections above the lower plan's limit are disconnected. Your oldest connections are kept, and the newest ones over the limit are removed. You can reconnect them any time after upgrading again. If you'd rather choose which ones to keep, remove the extras on /dashboard/connections before the downgrade date.
  • Dropping to Free disconnects all linked brokerage connections and turns off the AI features (AI stock stories, weekly recap, Penny on the kids' screen) and the photo screensaver. Manual accounts, stock deep-dives, and portfolio history charts keep working.

Switching billing cycle (monthly ↔ annual)

If your plan offers annual billing, switching between monthly and annual is treated as a plan change in the same flow. Annual billing is typically discounted vs. paying monthly.

Pausing instead of canceling

We don't currently support a "pause" option — your two choices are to keep the plan or to cancel/downgrade. Free tier is always available as a soft pause: it keeps your account active, preserves your kid profiles, and lets you re-upgrade any time without losing data.

Help me pick the right plan

The plan picker at /dashboard/billing shows which features each tier includes. In short:

  • Free — up to 3 kids, accounts added by hand.
  • Starter — up to 3 kids and up to 3 linked brokerage accounts that sync automatically, plus the AI features and photo screensaver.
  • Family — everything in Starter, with up to 10 kids and up to 10 linked brokerage accounts.

The usual reason to pick Family over Starter is having more than 3 kids or more than 3 brokerage accounts to link.
