Pairing a device with the QR code (the easy way)
The fastest way to pair a kid's device is the QR-code flow — the kid opens the dashboard, a code + QR appears, you scan it with your phone, and you're done. No typing required.
How it works
- On the kid's device (iPad, phone, family laptop), open a browser and go to mymemorybank.app/kids.
- The first visit shows a 6-digit code and a QR code on the right side of the screen.
- You scan the QR with your phone's camera (or any QR scanner). The link opens MemoryBank's approval page on your phone.
- Sign into your parent account if you're not already signed in.
- Tap Approve.
- The kid's device automatically loads the dashboard within a few seconds. Done.
Why this is the recommended flow
- No need to walk a code over or read 6 digits out loud.
- The QR carries the code, so you can't mistype.
- The same flow works whether the kid's device is across the table or across the country.
Walk-the-code-over alternative
If you're sitting next to the kid and don't have your phone handy, the older flow still works:
- You generate a code at /dashboard/pair.
- The kid types the 6 digits on their device.
This works the same way and the same TTL applies.
Codes are one-time use
Once a code is approved, the device is paired permanently (until you revoke it from /dashboard/devices). The code itself becomes invalid the moment it's used.
Codes expire
QR codes expire after 10 minutes. If yours expired before you could scan it, just refresh the kid's device — a new code and QR will appear.
