A stock my kid owns isn't showing up (or shows the wrong share count)
If a kid's holdings list is missing something you know they own, or a share count doesn't match your brokerage, the issue is almost always a sync delay rather than a wrong number.
Quick fix: wait a few hours
Brokerage data isn't live — we re-sync share counts and balances every few hours, plus immediately when a new connection is made or reconnected. New trades, dividend reinvestments, and transfers typically appear within 2-6 hours but can take up to 24.
If you're checking right after a trade or deposit, give it a few hours and look again.
Still missing after a day?
If a holding is still missing or wrong after a full business day:
- Check the assignment. Open /dashboard/accounts and confirm the account containing this holding is assigned to the right kid. An unassigned account's holdings won't appear on any kid's dashboard.
- Check the connection status. Open /dashboard/connections and look for any yellow/red status dots. A degraded connection may be reading stale data.
- Try a reconnect. Reconnecting forces a fresh pull from the brokerage. From /dashboard/connections, click Reconnect on the relevant connection.
Specific cases
Recently bought a new stock — Trade settlement typically completes in 1-2 business days. The new position usually appears in our data within a few hours after settlement, not immediately on trade day.
Cash from a recent dividend — Dividends are usually paid as cash first, then reinvested if your brokerage has DRIP turned on. Until the reinvestment lands, the dividend shows up in the cash portion of the account, not as new shares.
A holding that's "your kid's" but in a parent account — If a holding is held in your name with the kid as beneficiary (rather than a true UTMA), our integration may not see it as a kid asset. The fix is to use a proper UTMA or custodial account at your brokerage.
An asset type we don't show — Certain niche asset types (options, futures, foreign securities not on US exchanges) don't have a clean place to show up on a kids dashboard. Most kid accounts won't have these; if yours does, contact support and we can confirm.
When to escalate
If you've done the steps above and a holding is still wrong, please contact support. We can run a one-shot sync from our side and verify what the brokerage is returning.
