Personalizing the dashboard — avatars, colors, and display

Each kid can make their dashboard feel like their own. Open the settings (tap the gear icon, or tap the avatar) to find the personalization cards.

Avatar

Pick a fun emoji avatar for the kid — an animal, a rocket, a star, whatever feels like them. Tap the avatar (or open Settings, then Avatar), choose one, and Save. Each kid has their own.

Color

Choose the kid's accent color. It recolors the highlights on that kid's screen — the title, chips, and accents — so each kid gets their own look. Open Settings, then Color, pick one, and Save. This is set per kid, so siblings can each have a different color.

Display (screensaver and idle time)

The Display card controls the photo/screensaver experience:

  • Screensaver style — a gentle gradient, a sleeping Penny, or your own Google Photos slideshow.
  • How long the screen waits before the screensaver starts (the idle timer), and how often the photos rotate.

Heads-up: Display settings apply to the whole device/screen, not just one kid — handy when a tablet is shared or mounted on a wall.

Saving changes

Avatar, color, and display changes take effect when you tap Save. (A few things, like the watchlist, save instantly as you tap.)
