Adding a manual account

A manual account lets you show money that MemoryBank can't link automatically — an institution that isn't connectable, or any account you'd rather enter by hand. Manual accounts are available on every plan, including Free — and on Free they're how you add accounts, since automatic syncing of linked brokerage accounts is part of the Starter and Family plans.

How to add one

  1. Go to /dashboard/accounts.
  2. Open the Manual accounts tab.
  3. Click Add Manual Account.
  4. Give it a name, choose an account type (UTMA, Roth IRA, 529, brokerage, etc.), and assign it to a kid.
  5. Add what it holds, one of two ways:
    • Holdings — enter each ticker symbol and the number of shares. MemoryBank prices them with live market data, just like a linked account.
    • A flat value — enter a single current total (and optionally a cost basis) if you don't want to list individual holdings.
  6. Save. It shows up on the kid's dashboard alongside any linked accounts.

Keeping it up to date

A manual account isn't connected to an institution, so it doesn't update on its own — you keep it current by editing it on /dashboard/accounts when shares or values change. Its growth history is built from the values you enter over time (which is why the "Rebuild history" option only applies to linked accounts, not manual ones).
