How to use the kids dashboard
This is a tour of the kids dashboard and how to get around it. (For what each number means — Total value, Today, Total Gain, YTD Contributed — see "What does the kids dashboard show?")
Switching between kids
If more than one kid is set up, each kid has their own screen. Swipe left or right to move between them, or tap a kid's name at the top. Each screen only shows that one kid's accounts.
The ticker
A moving ticker scrolls the family's stocks plus anything on a kid's watchlist, with live prices and how much each is up or down today. Tap any stock on it to open that stock. Big movers get a fun effect — see "What do the 🔥 and 🫠 effects mean?"
Today's Top 3 (the leaderboard)
The middle of the screen is a leaderboard called "Today's Top 3," with a Family / My Stocks toggle. Family ranks the kids by how much their accounts moved today; My Stocks ranks one kid's own stocks. It ranks by today's percentage move, not by who has the most money, and it resets daily. See "What is Today's Top 3?"
My Stocks and the Watching tab
Tap "My Stocks" for the full list of what a kid owns (pooled across their accounts), and switch to the "Watching" tab for stocks they follow but don't own. See "What is a watchlist?"
Opening a stock
Tap any stock — on the ticker, in the leaderboard, or in My Stocks — to open its own view: logo, live price, a kid-friendly story about the company, a zoomable price chart, plus facts like its 52-week range, recent news, and dividends. See "The ticker and opening a stock."
The Account Growth chart
The growth chart shows how the account's value has changed over time. Tap the range buttons (1M / 3M / 6M / 1Y / ALL) to zoom in or out, tap the line to see the value on any day, and (with more than one account) toggle each account's line on or off. A flat or wiggly line is normal. See "What is the Account Growth chart?"
What I'll Have When I'm… (Time Travel)
This section shows a fun estimate of what the account could grow into by a future age. Tap "Time Travel" to slide through different future ages. It's a "what if" picture of compounding — not a promise. See "What does 'What I'll Have When I'm…' mean?"
Savings goals
If a goal is set (like saving toward a bike), the dashboard shows progress toward it — how close the account is and how much is left. Parents set and edit goals; kids get to watch the bar fill up.
Asking Penny
Penny (that's me!) is one tap away from the chat icon. Ask about anything on the screen — "what's this chart?", "what is VOO?", "why did it go down today?" — or about money and investing in general.
Make it yours
Each kid can pick their own emoji avatar and accent color, and choose the screensaver style, from the settings (tap the gear icon). See "Personalizing the dashboard."
Screensaver / photo mode
When the screen sits idle for a while, it can drift into a photo screensaver (great for a tablet on a shelf or a wall display). Touch the screen to wake it and return to the dashboard.
If something looks off
If the dashboard shows demo data, or the numbers look far off from your brokerage, the account connection may need attention — see "Why is my dashboard showing demo data" and reconnect from the parent dashboard under Connections.
